Hardened investigators are coming to terms with the fact that they may never know why a “highly intelligent” and “loving” father killed his five children and buried their bodies beside a highway, The National ENQUIRER has learned.

While Timothy Jones, 32, confessed to murdering Merah, 8, Elias, 7, Nahtahn, 6, Gabriel, 2, and Elaine Marie, 1, he still hadn’t revealed the reason behind his bloody spree.

“He has not indicated why he did this,” said A. Lewis McCarty, acting sheriff of Lexington County, S.C., where the family lived.

“In all of my years in law enforcement, I have never seen a case like this.

It’s hard to work a case with one child and one murder, it’s very difficult to work two. But five is extremely hard, and these men and women involved in this case have put everything they have in it.”

The ENQUIRER has uncovered a troubling portrait of the Jones family leading up to the kids’ tragic end. Jones, an Intel engineer who earned $70,000 a year, won primary custody of the children after a divorce battle with his wife Amber in October 2013.

In court documents, his marriage therapist described Jones as a “highly intelligent, responsible father who is capable of caring for his children.”

But the therapist also noted Jones was devastated after learned his wife had cheated on him with a 19-year-old neighbor.
