Bloodthirsty terrorist “sleeper” cells are hiding in North America — and they’re ready to unleash brutal attacks throughout the U.S.!
On the heels of the horrifying attack in San Bernardino, Calif., a hard-hitting investigation conducted by The National ENQUIRER has learned the death toll from homegrown terrorism could soar in the coming months!
Even more chilling, government officials admit they’re investigating people with ties to the Islamic State (ISIS) in virtually every state in the U.S.!
“I have been told with no uncertainty there are ISIS sleeper cells in this country!” former CIA operations officer Bob Baer said.
Dr. Marc Sageman, a former CIA case officer, told The ENQUIRER: “These are people who identify with ISIS, and they are already here! They don’t have to penetrate the borders to get here.
“They are citizens! It’s not an outside attack on the U.S., but a homegrown one precipitated from within our borders.”
In an alarming strategy, ISIS has been targeting homegrown extremists in the U.S., encouraging them to commit violent acts in our nation instead of traveling to Syria to join their sick cause.
In telephone conversations with a reporter last year, ISIS fighters suggested their leader, Iraqi Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is planning a large-scale, coordinated attack in the West — carried out by sleeper cells in both Europe and the U.S.!
One Islamic terrorist boasted: “The West are idiots and fools! They think they can distinguish us these days.
“They are fools and more than that, they don’t know we can play their game in intelligence.
“They infiltrated us … and we have also penetrated them with those who look like them.”
FBI Director James Comey said in a speech to law enforcement officials in Mississippi that the agency was investigating individuals with suspected ties to ISIS in 49 states. “We have opened cases all over the place focused on this threat, so it is not … a Washington thing,” James said. “It is something we focus on throughout the FBI.”
Prof. Ryan Mauro, national security analyst for the Clarion Project, told The ENQUIRER: “It’s crazy to think they don’t exist, and it’s a miracle we haven’t seen more of these attacks.
“The FBI is actively investigating as many as 1,000 terrorists in America — 50 of which are being continuously monitored by top FBI teams because the threat is considered to be so imminent.”
What’s more, intelligence leaders also fear ISIS commanders have set up camp just across the Texas border.
They have located a secret ISIS training compound in the Mexican desert — less than 10 miles from El Paso, The ENQUIRER has learned.
The ISIS group in Mexico is suspected of coordinating attacks in the U.S., and investigators are understood to be looking into possible links between the group and Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27.
The heavily armed married couple massacred 14 innocent victims and injured 21 others in a volley of gunfire in San Bernardino on Dec. 2.
After the attack, an armory of weapons, including thousands of rounds of ammunition and a dozen pipe bombs, were found at the home they shared with their 6-month-old daughter.
“This couple had a great familiarity with weapons and military-style tactics. Law enforcement will want to know how they acquired that,” an intelligence insider told The ENQUIRER.
“If the suspicions of anti-terrorist specialists prove correct and there’s a direct link with the ISIS leadership in Mexico, it will be our worst fears coming true.
“Terrorists are operating right in our backyard, but there is nothing we can do!”
That’s because the Mexico-based militants are believed to be paying a murderous drug cartel to protect the remote training camp, as well as smuggle terrorists across the U.S. border through well-established drug routes.
After two ISIS “soldiers” launched an attack on an event in Garland, Texas, in May, the terror group brazenly claimed to have “71 fighters in 15 states,” with more than two dozen fighters “ready for missions.”
The group also claimed to be plotting attacks in Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Michigan, and — ominously — California.
“Since the San Bernardino massacre, intelligence agents across the country have been on high alert,” added the insider.
“Although the government knows about the training camp, there’s nothing they can do because of its location and the high level of security surrounding it.
“All the security services can do is remain as vigilant as possible to try and stop the next attack.”
