Filling up at a gas station near his Pacific Palisades home, TOM HANKS smiled amiably when a man and wife pumping at the next tank suddenly recognized him and the woman blurted: “Ohmigod, you’re Tom Hanks!
"We just saw your movie, ‘Larry Crowne,’ last night!”
When Tom asked how they’d liked it, the guy gave it to him straight: “Well, not that much. In fact, it wasn’t very good.”
Horrified by hubby’s honesty, the woman turned red and told Tom: “Actually, it wasn’t that bad, we were just expecting it to be a lot better.”
Unflappable Tom – who starred in, directed and co-wrote the flick – just shook his head and said: “Gee, I’m really sorry you were disappointed. How about letting me refund your ticket money?”
Fishing $25 out of his wallet, Tom forked it over with a smile as the mortified woman protested – but hubby snatched the dough and stashed it.
A moment later, Tom finished pumping, waved at the couple as he got in his car and told them: “We’ll do a better job next time!”
