Talking Heads guru David Byrne is planning to turn a Manhattan building into the world's biggest musical instrument.

The quixotic Byrne intends on converting the Great Hall of the Battery Marina located next to the Staten Island Ferry into an art/music installation entitled appropriately enough "Playing the Building".

Byrne, 55, will attach sonic devices to the buildings landmark infrastructure,  creating tonal musical motifs not unlike the theremin - the instrument of choice for 1950s sci-fi films.

The experiment-in-sound will be unveiled at the end of the month.
