“How I Met Your Mother” star NEIL PATRICK HARRIS got knocked to the ground by co-star JASON SEGEL – who slapped him across the face so hard he went flying backward!

Both performers were seated while rehearsing a slap-trading scene, and Harris began the action with a light-ish slap to Segel’s cheek – but that pumped Segel’s adrenalin and he got carried away, catching Harris off-guard with a stinging slap that landed like a whip-crack!

 As everyone gasped, Segel rushed to help his dazed co-star to his feet, apologizing profusely…and he never stopped begging forgiveness until woozy Harris finally told Slappy that all was forgiven.
