A Colorado mountain climber has lived to tell the tale of surviving a ‘drop of death!’

Ryan Montoya was climbing solo on “Pyramid Peak” in Aspen — and was only 40 feet from the summit when a chunk of ice and snow broke off the mountain and sent him falling 1,500 feet!

Montoya suffered a broken hip and elbow as well as frostbite — but luckily landed in a snowfield — and used one of his arms to dig out a snow cave for shelter. His emergency bivouac sack contained fuel so he had the presence of mind to melt the snow and drink water from it.

He ventured out for help when he spotted a jogger who flagged down the rescue crews who were looking for him on snowmobiles heading up the road. They transported Montoya to an area hospital.

“All the doctors and staff here (most of them are climbers too) say that they have never seen anyone survive a fall down the east face of that mountain,” posted Montoya’s mother LaShawn Bockus Montoya on her Facebook page.

“He is literally a walking miracle”
