Pistol-packing granny NJ Logan knows how to deal with intruders!
While watching TV in bed at her Holmes Beach, Fla., home one recent afternoon, the 80-year-old – who was recovering from hip replacement surgery – heard a suspicious noise.
“My husband was at the country club,” she recalled.
“Once I realized it wasn’t him, you have no idea how fast you can go. It sounded like a rock had come through the window – and there were lots of footsteps.”
Keeping her cool, she grabbed her cell phone and retrieved a handgun from her bedside table. While walking from the third floor to the second to investigate, she dialed 911.
She told the operator, “I have a gun but I don’t know if I know how to use it or not.”
Alarmed, the 911 dispatcher pleaded, “Put the gun down,” to which NJ shot back, “I’ll put the gun down when I see the police!”
Granny stood her ground and held onto the weapon, but admitted, “I had never shot it before.”
As the courageous senior approached the stairs to the first floor, she called out, “I have a gun! Then she spotted a broken door panel and a cut-out screen. Still, she continued to approach.
“I didn’t want to shoot anybody,” she said.
To her relief, when she got to the site of the attempted break-in, the intruders had wisely left. She estimated that police arrived a minute after her phone call.
“I wasn’t afraid until after it was all over,” she said.
With the chilling incident behind her, the gun-toting granny reflected,
“I think it’s safe to say that this dispatcher had never been in a situation where they needed the protection of a firearm. If they had ever felt the fear of being defenseless against home invaders, the instructions given probably would have been much different!
"No one has the right to break in to your home,” she stressed. “I believe in guns inside your house.”
