James Bond has retired – and he couldn’t be happier!
Sean Connery has turned his back on Hollywood, trading his tuxedos and Aston Martin for khakis and a golf cart.
The 84-year-old star’s lack of interest in taking part in a 50th anniversary celebration of the “James Bond” movies at the 2013 Oscars helped scuttle the idea, and he’s also announced he would no longer make public appearances. His last movie was 2003’s “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.”
These days, the healthy and robust Scotsman can be seen cycling around a beachfront community in the Bahamas, where he happily runs out the door twice a day to hit the links bordering his backyard, erasing last summer’s rumors that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Sean has given up his spot on “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” for a regular table at his favorite neighborhood restaurant, Mahogany House, with his wife of almost 40 years, Micheline Roquebrune.
“Hollywood’s about the furthest thing from his mind,” a source told The National ENQUIRER. “He loves the island, he loves his neighbors and he really loves his golf.”
The down-to-earth actor often entertains at his comparatively modest home.
“He has people over all the time,” said an insider. “But it’s mostly people from around here or old friends and close family. It’s not that he doesn’t have Hollywood people over…he does. But that’s not who he is anymore.”
Just one of the guys, the legendary star can often be seen laughing with neighbors or stopping on his bike to chat with local shop owners.
“He doesn’t get treated like a celebrity here,” said the source. “People are either millionaires who could care less about his film career or local folks who have gotten to know him as a regular guy. That’s what he loves about living down here.”
