Winning an Oscar hasn’t gone to Jared Leto’s head. Despite being one of the hottest tickets in Tinsel Town, sources say this A-list actor hasn’t forgotten his roots.
The 42-year-old hunk – who took home a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for playing tough-as- nails transvestite “Rayon” in “Dallas Buyers Club” – waits in line at supermarkets, picks up his own dry cleaning and even helps his assistants run errands.
“I ran into him at a Whole Foods Market in West Hollywood the other night and he ordered a large vegetarian pizza and then waited in the cashier’s line to pay,” an eyewitness told The ENQUIRER.
“I was standing behind him, and when I told him it smelled good he asked me if I wanted a slice! He’s as down to earth as they come.”
A friend added that the handsome actor, who also fronts the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, takes out his own trash, washes his car and acts as bartender for guests at his parties – even though he doesn’t drink.
The “My So-Called Life” star was reportedly so poor growing up in Louisiana that he, his mom and brother survived on food stamps. At their lowest point, the three lived in a truck – and Jared hasn’t forgotten those tough times.
He admitted to a reporter that he’s not caught up in the trappings of fame. “I’m not basking in the glory of access to some VIP room I could give a (bleep) about,” he said.
But if there’s one thing Jared IS fussy about, it’s his hair! The friend says the star insists on ironing his long locks – on an ironing board – before he goes out.
“It’s the one thing he’s meticulous about,” the friend added. “Otherwise, he’s a personal assistant’s dream. Even though he’s hired two of them, he often tags along to help run errands. “He’s so laid back, and he just likes their company.”
