Profiles in sexism? LARA LOGAN Benghazi expose ignites conflagration of controversy!
A New York Magazine story detailed the career of CBS correspondent Lara Logan which analyzed how sexism played a role in her ascent to TV journo supestardom has been denounced as –wait for it – sexist in its intent.
The New York mag “Benghazi and the Bombshell,” takedown recounted Logan’s rise star during the Iraq War, the sex assault she suffered in Cairo during the Egyptian uprising and her “60 Minutes” report on the terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi in 2012, which was debunked.
The Benghazi foul-up led to her being suspended by the Tiffany net which some say she was the “fall guy” in a blown CBS investigation.
The NY Mag piece reveals how the former swimsuit model from South Africa built her career by using her stunning good looks and later develop military sources. While on assignment she wore revealing clothing while covering Afghanistan.
The article also re-reports prior ENQUIRER’s articles about cheating on her boyfriend in Baghdad. This led to a major blow-out when he walking in on her having sex with another man. That man is now her husband.
She was “open-eyed about the uses of sex in her profession — it was a tactic, and not to use it would be stupid,” author Joe Logan suggested in the mag piece, igniting the Twitter-verse.
“The most amazing thing about” the magaine profile, Daily Beast reporter Olivia Nuzzi tweeted, “is how you can still be sexist while condemning other people for sexism.”
Others called it a “sexist hit job” taking umbrage with the suggestion that Logan could be replaced by another “attractive, blonde” reporter Olivia Ward.
Logan’s future at CBS remains unclear but other networks, like CNN, are eager to make Lara the newsmaker a part of their news team.
