As if being Hollywood’s highest paid actor isn’t enough, now Robert Downey Jr. wants to top the pop charts!
Record producers have been wooing the “Iron Man” star since a duet he did with rocker Sting hit the Internet, sources say, and now Downey is secretly recording an album.
“Some of the biggest names in the music industry are helping Robert put his CD together,” a source close to the 48-year-old actor told The ENQUIRER.
“Robert has already recorded several songs, and he sounds better than a lot of the performers out there.”
Downey – who earned an estimated $75 million between June 2012 and June 2013 – battled a severe drug problem after earning an Oscar nomination for his leading role in the 1992 biopic “Chaplin.”
He eventually beat his drug demons, rebuilt his acting career and released an album titled “The Futurist” in 2004 to little fanfare.
But the “Sherlock Holmes” star caught the ears of music industry bigwigs when a video of him singing with Sting at the former Police front man’s 60th birthday celebration in 2011 recently went viral.
That night, Downey’s remarkable voice and amazing stage presence while performing the Police classic, “Driven to Tears,” impressed not only Sting, but fellow guests and music legends Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel.
Downey and Sting have been friends for years, said the source. In fact, Robert persuaded Sting to sing “Every Breath You Take” with him when he starred on TV’s “Ally McBeal” in 2000.
“Those two go way back, and you couldn’t ask for a better music mentor than Sting,” added the source.
“It’s clear that Robert is talented, and he’s been writing music for as long as he can remember. Who knows? He may win a Grammy before he gets an Oscar!”
