SUPER BOWL, N.Y. – Forget the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks!
The real stars of Sunday’s big day have arrived in the Big Apple – the adorable little dogs that play in Animal Planet’s wildly popular annual “Puppy Bowl.”
And The ENQUIRER was happily on hand as the cable network threw a big party in Times Square Tuesday night in honor of Sunday’s big televised spectacular – which shows puppies at play inside a model stadium with commentary on their actions, mimicking the NFL’s “other” big game that day.
Animal Planet’s counterprogramming began in 2005, and it’s been a wonderful idea because the rescued pooches are all selected from shelters and it showcases awareness and spotlights adoptions.
And it’s become much-watched TV, too! Last year, some 12.4 million viewers tuned in.
For this year’s event – officially known as “Puppy Bowl X,” the 10th anniversary of the game has even received an endorsement from the White House!
First Lady Michelle Obama – along with presidential pets Bo and Sunny – hosted a training camp on the South Lawn, welcoming 13 pups to “work out” before the big bowl.
Said Michelle: “This year’s pups showed us that getting active and lapping up plenty of water are important ways to keep our bodies healthy and energized.”
Animal Planet will air footage from the White House training session, which was filmed Oct. 28, on Sunday, starting at 3 p.m. EST.
And in terms of this year’s matchup, here’s advance P.R. as to what you can expect: The word is, “There will be puppies doing puppy things (playing, barking, chewing) in a football-field shaped box,” and “fouls could be called for things like, ‘excessive cuteness.’”
And in some bombshell shocking news, The ENQUIRER can exclusively reveal that Animal Planet has also scheduled “Keyboard Cat” to “play” the Bruno Mars song “Locked Out of Heaven” during the Kitty Half-Time!
Supposedly a guy with that same name will sing at the other game half-time Sunday, televised on FOX.
