PAUL WALKER, star of the hit franchise Fast and Furious films, died in a car crash Saturday in Santa Clarita, Calif. He was 40.
Walker, best known for breakout role as Brian O’Conner in The Fast and the Furious in 2001, was a passenger in a car that lost control and crashed into a traffic post.
His publicist confirmed his passing to the Associated Press.
“The cause of the collision is under investigation,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
Fireman "extinguished the fire and subsequently located two victims inside the vehicle.
"The victims were pronounced dead at the scene."
He had the accident after helping a charity raise money to help victims of the recent Phillipines typhoon.
UPDATE 12/1: Law enforcement officials have confirmed that speed was a factor in the devastating crash and that both bodies were charred beyond recognition.
“There was a post-collision fire and bodies are not visually identifiable,” said deputy coroner Dana Bee.
The coroner’s office said they are working with reps from both families to legally obtain the dental records so they can perform the autopsies.
