Six strangled, one beheaded in tourist trap slay spree down Mexico way in drug war bloodbath.
The state's deputy attorney general described the latest outrage to hit seaside resort of Cancun on Mexico’s Caribbean coastline, famed hotspot for turistas and spring breakers.
The previously squeaky clan Cancun had been untouched by the ravages of the non-stop drug wars between feuding cartel crime families – that is – until NOW.
"It looks like the victims were independent drug dealers without any links to any specific cartel," said Juan Ignacio Hernandez, deputy attorney general of Quintana Roo stated.
Six people died and five were injured after two men opened fire in a bar just outside Cancun and in a seemingly unrelated incident police discovered the remains of another male victime who had been gagged, bound and wrapped in sheets.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has promised to put an end to the violence that exploded after his predecessor, Felipe Calderon, launched a military-like junta on the cartels.
More than 70,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since 2007 and making war torn Acapulco, a faded remembrance of idyllic vacations past.
