New information has surfaced in the murder case of CHANDRA LEVY a 24 year-old Congressional aide who was found slain amid reports she had been having an affair.
Levy’s remains were found in Washington DC park and Ingmar Guandique was later convicted in 2010, receiving a sentence of 60 years in prison.
Married Congressman Gary Condit from California whose affair with Levy made him a possible person of interest was cleared of any involvement in Levy's death.
Their affair and rampant speculation led to his ouster from Congress in a primary election in 2002.
Earlier this month, the Washington Post reported that defense attorneys for the convicted killer, Guandique, were seeking a new trial for their client on the grounds that prosecutors withheld key information about a witness.
Since the December meetings Guandique's lawyers have put the appeal on hold.
Levy's father, Robert, told KGO-TV that regardless of the outcome of the closed-door meetings, Guandique should not be set free.
"He's a convicted rapist and an illegal alien," Robert Levy said. "He's not legal at all, he's not working or anything. He's just a criminal so he shouldn't go free. But if he's innocent of murder then he shouldn't be in jail for it."
The Star-Telegram reports that multiple media orgs -- including McClatchy, The Washington Post, the Associated Press and Gannett – have filed legal papers to formally challenge the judge’s orders to keep the Levy meetings secret.
