THE divorce papers that ended the high-profile marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been exclusively obtained by The ENQUIRER!
The world has been buzzing about the never-before-seen documents ever since Katie blindsided her superstar husband with a surprise divorce in late June.
And now The ENQUIRER can finally reveal the juicy details of the blockbuster divorce decree, including the A-list couple’s specifics of their custody agreement on daughter Suri, and why Tom could end up in jail!
The papers – dated AUG. 17, 2012, and signed by New York State Supreme Court Judge Matthew F. Cooper – confirm widespread reports that Katie, 33, was awarded sole custody of 6-year-old Suri.
But they drop a bombshell about the final months of the couple’s marriage!
In a shocking revelation, Katie claims her “marital relationship” with Tom had “broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding” her divorce filing on June 28.
That shoots down the “happy family” image that Katie played up when she and Suri visited Tom in Iceland just two weeks earlier for Father’s Day!
As The ENQUIRER reported, they checked into the $1,000-a-night Presidential Suite of the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica hotel.
And while the couple tied the knot in a lavish wedding in Italy in November 2006, Katie states for the record that she officially married the twice-divorced Hollywood hunk “in a civil ceremony” in Los Angeles on Nov. 11, 2006.
The former “Dawson’s Creek” star also acknowledged that she signed a prenuptial agreement with the actor months earlier.
The papers also confirm reports that Tom, 50, has been ordered to pay $400,000 a year in child support and cover Suri’s “medical, dental, insurance, unreimbursed medical and dental, education, college, extracurricular and camp expenses.”
Experts calculate that over the next 12 years, until Suri turns 18, the payments will total $4.8 million – just a fraction of Tom’s $250 million fortune.
If he fails to pay, Judge Cooper threatens to toss Cruise in jail “for a term not to exceed six months.”
But in stern language directed at both Tom and Katie, the judge states that the two parents must still work with each other in matters pertaining to the child.
The ENQUIRER had the scoop on the Cruise divorce from the very beginning. On June 29, we contacted reps for the couple, telling them we were publishing a story detailing how Katie had secretly served Tom divorce papers and moved into her own apartment in New York City. Within the hour, her attorney confirmed the divorce publicly, spawning headlines around the world.
