DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES NICOLLETTE SHERIDAN broke down in tears on Day One of her trial against the show’s creator.
As The ENQUIRER reported previously Sheridan filed a $20 million lawsuit against the show’s creator Marc Cherry in 2010, alleging he slapped her in the face after she complained about a script.
When she complained to show runners at ABC, Cherry, the lawsuit alleges, killed off her character.
She is seeking compensation for wrongful termination and battery, as the bombshell trial began in Hollywood.
Sheridan openly wept, wiping her eyes with a handkerchief as she her attorney Mark Baute tell the jury, "Ms. Sheridan is taking this on alone in a town where nobody takes on a television network."
He then described the alleged attack, saying Cherry "hit Ms. Sheridan hard" during an argument in September 2008.
Cherry’s lawyer pooh-poohed the charges, speaking to the jury, insisting Sheridan’s character; Edie Britt was eliminated from the storyline after the story arc ran its course.
"For a television show to last more than a few episodes, writers must continue to shock and surprise the audience who is wanting more,’ Cherry’s attorney said. “People die a lot on TV, which can lead to water-cooler talk and media exposure."
Sheridan is expected to take the stand today.
Her former Housewives costars Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman are also slated to testify.
