The political trial of the century - the United States vs. JOHNNY REID EDWARDS --now has a start date!
A federal judge has an April 23 trial date for two-time presidential closer John Edwards, who is accused of using political donations to hide an affair during his 2008 campaign.
As The ENQUIRER previously reported Edwards' trial was originally docketed for late January, but U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles pushed it back after Edwards confirmed his heart problems.
Edwards’ lawyers said his health has moved to a management stage.
Jury selection for the trial is expected to begin April 12, and the trial is expected to last six weeks.
As The ENQUIRER reported last week both prosecution and defense were arguing over what former Edwards’s loyalist Andrew Young will be permitted to enter into evidence.
Both Edwards' lawyers and prosecutors submitted court filings over Young’s anticipated testimony about conversations he had with Listerine heiress 101 year old Rachel "Bunny" Mellon and late Dallas money man and Edwards campaign finance chairman Fred Baron about campaign funds used to help hide Edwards' pregnant mistress.
The ENQUIRER's series of world exclusives first exposed Edwards' conspiracy of silence.
