Despite the death toll and heartbreak caused by alleged Chardon HS shooter T.J. Lane, his neighbor, a pastor, claims the teen was “normal” and doing well at school.
Pastor Steve Sawczak told AP that shooting suspect Lane, 17, appeared to be an average kid who didn't exhibit any outward signs of being troubled.
Sawczak said he has lived next to Lane's grandparents for nearly 25 years and is not just a neighbor but a family friend. Lane played frequently with his sister, building snow forts and skateboarding.
Lane’s grandparents gave the alleged perp a healthy place to live, Pastor Sawczak said.
Law enforcement prosecutors said that Lane has admitted taking a .22-caliber pistol to Chardon High and firing 10 shots at a group of students sitting at a cafeteria table on Monday.
Three victims have died from the shooting rampage.
Lane appeared briefly in juvenile court yesterday as grim faced community residents offered support for families and friends of the three students who were killed and two who were wounded.
Prosecutors intend to charge Lane as an adult.
