ENQUIRER readers want justice for Jerry.
Thousands of them have responded to our campaign to have King of Comedy Jerry Lewis awarded the coveted Kennedy Center Honor.
Late last year we asked our warmhearted family of readers to help get the prestigious award for the gifted comedian -- and you responded by the thousands, filling out our coupon expressing your support.
ENQUIRER readers strongly agree that 77-year-old Jerry -- who is battling to recover from recent illnesses -- should be honored with the annual award given by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Jerry's huge legion of fans also added their personal comments.
"I am so happy that you are doing this for Jerry," said Helen Otterson, a devoted fan from Oklahoma. "He most certainly has been overlooked too long."
"Jerry Lewis is the best comedian and deserved this award long ago. Tell him we love him," wrote Joey Rello, an admirer from New York.
Geraldine Mosher of Pennsylvania adores the tireless chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. "I hope you get what you deserve because you're the greatest in my eyes and a whole lot of other people. You are loved."
Cecilia Burt, a 43-year-old fan from Chicago who has enjoyed the star since she was a toddler, told us, "Mr. Jerry Lewis has the artistry and ability of making you laugh even when you're sad."
Tiki Davies, a spokesperson for the Kennedy Center, declared:
"We will certainly alert the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees as well as the Artists Committee to the response from ENQUIRER readers.
"The Artists Committee makes the recommendations to the Board of Trustees, who make the final decision as to who will be honored each year.
"The final decision is made during the summer months and the recipients are announced shortly thereafter."
The world-famous award recognizes distinguished performers who have made major contributions to the arts in America. More than 100 artists have received the honor since 1978. When a delighted Jerry -- who's made more than 55 movies -- learned of The ENQUIRER's plans, he told us:
"The Kennedy Center Honor is an incredible tribute to a body of work. I am thrilled The National ENQUIRER has embarked on a campaign to have me be a recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor."
