The X-Files film sequel is in the works and Mulder and Scully will officially be reuniting on the big screen on June 25, 2008, according to Twentieth Century Fox. The currently untitled follow-up movie will start production in Vancouver on Dec. 10, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in their iconic roles as FBI agents.
Although few plot points have been revealed — besides classifying the sequel as a "supernatural thriller" — Fox did note that the film, both written and directed by Chris Carter, will be a stand-alone story.
In Britain's Empire Magazine, Anderson leaked that it would be more a "really scary horror" movie rather than "touching on any of the conspiracy stuff."
The TV series ended its nine season run in 2002. The first X-Files film was a huge success, raking in $30.1 million in its opening weekend and going on to gross more than $189 million worldwide. Although the second film seemed doomed back in 2005 after contractual disagreements between Carter and 20th Century Fox prevented progress, all legal action was finally resolved in court last year.
