Insensitive comic GILBERT GOTTFRIED fired as Aflack duck after thoughtless repeated Tweets about Japan's tragic disaster.
Insurance magnate Aflac Inc. severed ties with Gilbert Gottfried, the longtime voice of the insurer’s duck mascot, after he Tweeted a series of tasteless jokes about the horrific earthquake and tsunami.
“Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac,” Aflac Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Michael Zuna said in a statement Monday
“There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.”
The insurance giant Aflac, which does 75 percent of its business in Japan, plans to donate $100 million to disaster relief in an attempt to save face with their loyal customers in the land of the rising sun.
An unrepentant Gottfried has yet to apologize for the jokes, which included: "I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, 'They'll be another one floating by any minute now.’”
Gottfired was also chastised back in 2001 for a spate of “too soon” 9/11 jokes hot on the heels of the World Trade Center attacks.
Also, in the international dog house, rapper Fifty Cent who also Tweeted his disrespect to the traumatized people of Japan.
Fitty does not work for Aflac nor will he be doing so in the future.
