An innocent schoolteacher’s desperate pleas for mercy have been entered into evidence in the alleged murderer’s trial — taped via an accidental 'butt dial!' Documents filed in Riverside County court in Coachella, Calif., revealed the existence of a recording allegedly made by Michael John Franco on the night that high school math teacher Jill Grant was murdered.
Police found Jill's mutilated corpse on a golf course near her home in Indio, Calif., two days before Christmas in 2013, and believe that Franco had dumped her there after slitting her throat with a box-cutter and running her over with her own Toyota Prius. The damning butt-dial recording came from a friend of Franco’s voicemail inbox — and, while frequently inaudible, appears to capture Jill pleading with her homicidal beau!

“What if I drive the car someplace and call myself, and say I was attacked?” Grant begs in the recording, according to a transcript filed in court. “Would that work?” she asks. “We can think of something to say, like [inaudible]. I am sure we can think of something. Say it was [inaudible.] What can we say?”… What do you want me to say? What should I say?”

In addition to the newly revealed recording, the prosecution’s pile of evidence includes security footage from a bank, with Franco using Grant’s ATM card to withdraw money on the night of her murder. Police captured the soul-patched psycho while he was driving the Prius, which had blood on the bumper and handprints on the hood.

Franco was carrying Jill's bank cards and driver’s license — plus a Glock handgun registered to Jill that he was reaching for when officers stopped him with a stun gun. Prosecutors further claim that Franco, who entered a “not guilty” plea, confessed his guilt in the crime to a prison cellmate. The snitch claimed that Franco had boasted of plans to “act crazy” and get off with a stay in a mental hospital.
