The
crazed clown is back, this time with an especially creepy twist — using a sword in place of his
arm!Police in southern Maine responded to a report July 25 of a man wearing a clown mask and wielding a machete as he walked along a road, according to reports reviewed by
The National ENQUIRER. The clown hid in the woods in Hollis before the cops arrived. He then eluded them for an hour before he re-emerged in Waterboro.
Authorities arrested Corey Berry, 31, of Hollis, Maine, and found he wasn’t holding the machete — it had been duct-taped to the stub of his amputated arm! “He had what I thought was a meat cleaver,” says Stephanie Hamlin, who saw him while washing dishes at her kitchen sink. “It was as if he was in a trance.”
Berry was allegedly intoxicated, but the police report described him as cooperative. “He put down the machete when we instructed him to do so,” says Maine State Police Trooper Adam Schmidt. Berry reportedly said he was playing a joke on a nearby friend who has children.
“I asked, ‘How old are the other man’s children?’ and he said 'less than seven,'” recalled Schmidt. Berry was charged with criminal threatening and was freed after posting $200 bail.
An
outbreak of creepy clowns spread across the U.S. last year as pranksters and sometimes criminals donned masks and frightened people, often in remote areas, with scary behavior. Most of the clowns were not caught or charged, but there were some arrests involving robberies, threats and assaults on adults and children.
