Chandra Levy: Killer Of D.C. Intern Still On The Loose

The 2001 murder of Chandra Levy remains unsolved — with her married Congressman lover back in the hot seat as the man charged with her death is released! Ingmar Guandique had been scheduled for a retrial in October 2016 after a judge tossed out the conviction of the 34-year-old illegal immigrant from South America. But now the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C. has moved to dismiss charges against Guandique completely, based on "new information."

The startling decision puts an unwelcome spotlight back on Chandra's secret lover Gary Condit. The married Congressman lost reelection to his California district in 2002 after his affair with the intern was exposed as cops searched for her murderer! Condit was never accused of Chandra's murder, but The National ENQUIRER revealed that Ingmar's attorneys had planned to go after his personal records!

The attorneys intended to obtain the former Congressman’s telephone, bank and credit card records from the time of his affair with Chandra to the 24-year-old brunette’s disappearance on May 1, 2001. Guandique, who notoriously preyed on women in the park, was convicted of Chandra’s murder based on the testimony of a snitching cellmate.

The new trial for the accused man was ordered after the cellmate's testimony was exposed as a lie. Meanwhile, the innocent man's defense lawyers were able to build a strong case that officials had hidden key evidence that could indicate the young woman was originally slain in her apartment!

A devastating 911 call from Chandra’s neighbor, who reported hearing a “blood-curdling scream” the night the intern vanished, seems to support she was killed by someone she knew, the lawyers said. The woman lived on the building’s tenth floor – seven stories above Chandra – and is said to have been found by the public defenders who obtained the new trial for Guandique.

“She has told Mr. Guandique’s lawyers that she called 911 at 4:37 a.m., to report a ‘blood-curdling scream’ from a woman in extreme distress,” a source close to the investigation told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. “She said it may have come from Chandra’s apartment.”

In an exclusive interview, Chandra’s mother had already told The ENQUIRER that she feared lawmen arrested the wrong man for her daughter’s death! Susan Levy believes that Chandra’s corpse was dumped in D.C.’s Rock Creek Park — four miles from the intern's apartment — after she had been murdered somewhere else. Chandra’s badly decomposed remains were found deep in the wooded park on May 22, 2002 — over a year after she vanished!

In the weeks after Chandra went missing, the park was repeatedly searched by volunteers, lawmen and dogs. All came up empty. "I wonder if her body was really there before," said Susan, "or placed there later — because police originally could not find her body with bloodhounds!" An autopsy found damage to Chandra's hyoid bone, suggesting possible strangulation.

On June 6, shortly after the police completed their search where Chandra's body was found, private investigators hired by Susan and husband Robert Levy found their daughter's shin bone with some twisted wire about 25 yards from the other remains. It remains yet another enduring mystery about Chandra's death — with more questions for Gary Condit, now living in Arizona after having left California in disgrace!
