Tick…tock…tick…tock…Early riser TOM HANKS woke up with the roosters and phoned LA’s NPR radio station at 6 a.m. saying he wanted to help with their Fall Pledge Drive – so he and wife RITA WILSON were pledging $25,000 – but only if at least 750 people phoned in to become new members, or renew their membership, by 1 p.m.

Tom emphasized that if enough listeners did not call in, the pledge would be retracted.

The clock ticked and tocked – but with only 30 seconds to go, the station still needed FOUR pledges!

Incredibly, with just two seconds left on the clock and only one more pledge to go…RING!… the final contributor phoned just in time, triggering Terrific Tom’s generous donation.
