"High School Musical" cutie VANESSA HUDGENS exploded backstage after comedian DANE COOK - referring onstage to the fact that new nude photos of her had surfaced on the Web - cracked: "Girlie, you gots to keep your clothes on!"

Knowing she was on-camera, humiliated Vanessa just stared daggers at Cook, then rushed backstage and shrieked at producers: "Dane Cook's a CREEP! How could he do this to me? It's so mean!"

Insiders report Fox execs, worried Vanessa might exit the show, pledged that Dane's dumbass diss would be snipped from the TV broadcast.

"But everyone in the audience heard him make a fool of me," she wailed.

In the end, Vanessa acted like a total pro. Said a source: "She held her head high, walked back out into the audience and did her on-camera intro. She showed a lot of class."

Later that evening, Vanessa flashed back on Cook's nasty crack, but boyfriend ZAC EFRON quickly consoled her, saying: "Dane's just a punk…he made an ass of himself!"
