BRITNEY SPEARS is reaching out to comfort Mel Gibson – leaving prayers for the scandal-plagued actor on his voice mail, insiders told The ENQUIRER.
The pop princess has been close to the Mad Max star since he mentored her during her catastrophic 2008 breakdown, sources say, and now she wants to return the favor.
"Mel flew Britney and her dad to his ranch in Costa Rica, and she’s never forgotten his kindness," divulged a source close to the 28-year-old singer.
"Every day they’d sit down, bow their heads and pray together, asking God to help Britney. Mel also counseled Britney on her career, and now she wants to extend the same kindness to him."
The singer calls Gibson’s phone numbers daily, the source revealed.
"She leaves messages reminding him how they prayed together and telling him that it did her a lot of good," the source said. "She’s convinced that he’s listening to her prayers, and those prayers will now help him."
The disgraced Oscar-winner, 54, is being investigated for alleged domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his 9-month-old daughter Lucia, his eighth child.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating whether Oksana tried to extort money from Gibson.
"Britney feels Mel is being dragged through the mud, and she knows how that feels," the source said.
"She also sees Oksana as a user who had a baby with Mel for money and fame. She believes Oksana is playing the victim, just like her ex-husband Kevin Federline did."
While Britney hasn’t spoken to Gibson personally, she’s not giving up, said the source.
"Mel was a knight in shining armor for Britney, so she’ll continue reaching out to him, and she’ll be there for him whenever he needs her."
