JACKIE KENNEDY confidante and key contributor to JOHN EDWARDS hush money conspiracy 100 year-old Listerine heiress RACHEL “BUNNY” Mellon breaks her silence.

As THE ENQUIRER reported previously Mellon and former Edwards money man Fred Baron were key contributors to the conspiracy of silence that helped keep Edwards affair with Rielle Hunter and their love child out of the media until the ENQUIRER first revealed ALL in a series of bombshell exclusives.

“He would have been a great president,” Mellon who turns 101 in August, told Newsweek.

“He and I were great friends. Every time he’d go on a debate against Hillary, he’d call and we’d talk.”

Edwards was indicted last month on federal felony charges that he violated campaign finance laws as he took hundreds of thousands of dollars from Mellon and Baron for to coverup his affair.

“I was so surprised when this thing came up,” the blind heiress said referring to Edwards' indictment.

She admitted she had been grilled by feds probing Edwards but not charged in the case.

Former Edwards loyalist Andrew Young who assisted the former Senator in the cover-up confirmed The ENQUIRER's reports in his book "The Politician" said that Mellon placed her campaign “gifts” to Edwards in hidden in boxes of chocolates.

Mellon didn’t — and wouldn’t —  tell the newsmag her opinions of the Feds case against Edwards because as The ENQUIRER reported she previously made a videotaped deposition to the secret Federal Grand Jury investigating the charges that preceded the historic indictment.

But Mellon’s grandson denounced her infatuation with Edwards as a “crush".

“I wish I could have 10 minutes in a room with John Edwards to explain that he’s doing nothing but tarnish her legacy and really taking advantage of her,” Thomas Lloyd told the newsmag.

The sensational John Edwards criminal trial is docketed to begin in October.
