His film character has the ability to wave a magic wand to ward off unwanted attention, but Harry Potter standout Daniel Radcliffe says he wishes a wand could help him find the right girl who wants him not just for his celebrity status.
The 17-year-old actor, who is currently filming the fifth film in the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, recently explained his dating troubles to Newsweek, saying that he worries about girls who only want to date him because of his fame.
“Normally, the people who are not genuine are the ones who say, ‘You know I’m not just being your friend because you’re Harry Potter, right?’ And it’s like, ‘Uh, fine, but if that’s the case, why do you need to say that?’” Radcliffe says.
If not just for his Potter role, people will certainly know Radcliffe’s name once he appears in the London stage revival of Equus. He will assume the role of a troubled man obsessed with horses – and will appear nude in one scene.
“Part of me wants to shake up people’s perception of me, just shove me in a blender,” he tells the magazine. “It’s a really challenging play, and if I can pull it off – we don’t know if I can yet – I hope people will stop and think, ‘Maybe he can do something other than Harry.’”
