EXCLUSIVE: CHER BELTED BY HATE-TORN SON CHAZ!

CHER suffered an emotional collapse after reading son CHAZ BONO’s shocking new memoir, in which he blasts the superstar as a bigot and a cold, uncaring “mommy dearest,” The ENQUIRER has learned.

In his no-holds-barred tell-all, titled “Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man,” Chaz – who was born a female named Chastity but underwent sex re-assignment in 2009 – blows the lid off his painful childhood.

The 42-year-old reveals that his famous mother put her career ahead of caring for her kids, belittled him and long-refused to accept his gender-bending lifestyle.

After Chaz told Cher that he was going to go public with the fact he was undergoing gender reassignment, Cher told her: “People don’t want to hear about your transition! You’ll be the butt of every joke on late-night TV.”

Chaz adds that while Cher was angry, hurt and scared, she was MOST worried about how it would reflect on her.

In one of the most damning sections of the book, Chaz writes that years earlier when she worked up the courage to tell her mother that she was a lesbian, Cher responded by kicking her out of their home.

Chaz writes that he and his famous mother battled over his masculine style for as long as he can remember.

“Life with my mother was always a series of complicated, if unspoken, negotiations,” he says. “I felt that I was not the kind of daughter my mother wanted.

“The fights and, later, snide comments about my clothes, hair and jewelry lasted into my 20s.

“‘You walk like a truck driver. You dress like a slob,’ I heard again and again. She had been making it clear for years that she wished I would act more like a girl.”

The behind-the-scenes Cher is a far cry from the sequined singer long-revered in the gay community – and the book threatens to turn Cher’s reputation as an open-minded free-thinker on its head.

“Cher pays a lot of lip service to the whole gay and homosexual community because it has embraced her and made her rich,” revealed a friend.

“But when it hit close to home, it was a completely different matter.”
