PRISON PLOT TO KILL SCOTT
"He's a baby killer and a wife killer and that doesn't fly with a lot of prisoners," former San Quentin inmate Art Walters told The ENQUIRER. "I've heard prisoners bragging that they want to say, 'Hey I'm the guy that got Scott.' An attack will happen while Scott's being led from his cell to other parts of the prison." Walters, who was released from the infamous California prison last year after serving four years for possession of methamphetamines, said that inmates followed the Peterson case closely. After several weeks of medical and psychological evaluation, Scott will be assigned a cell on East Block where most Death Row inmates are housed. An attack on the former fertilizer salesman will likely occur as he's escorted to the showers, infirmary or law library -- by one or two guards, said Walters. "He has to pass by other prisoners, guys mopping or doing other chores. It doesn't take much for someone to use a makeshift knife on Scott." For security reasons, San Quentin requires that prisoners turn their backs and leave a wide path when any escorted inmate in shackles passes by. But despite the precautions, "it would be shortsighted not to think an assault is possible," San Quentin spokesman Sgt. Eric Messick told The ENQUIRER. A prime example was the attack on notorious Death Row inmate Richard Allen Davis, who murdered little Polly Klaas, said Sgt. Messick. "That happened while Davis was being escorted. A prisoner was facing away, toward a wall. But he suddenly turned and attacked Davis." The killer's head was slammed into a locker -- a vicious attack that left him with recurring dizzy spells. Overcrowded conditions will make it even more difficult to protect Scott. The facility holds some 6,000 inmates -- including 644 awaiting execution. His vulnerability will increase if he chooses to exercise in the prison yard with other prisoners, rather than by himself. "In the minds of some prisoners, it would be a feather in their cap to kill or attack Scott Peterson because of his notoriety," California Department of Corrections spokesperson Terry Thornton told The ENQUIRER. Those prisoners include members of violent San Quentin prison gangs -- white supremacists like the Aryan Brotherhood and the Nazi Low Riders, Hispanic gangs and the tough Black Guerilla Family. "The gangsters might just kill Scott for kicks," said Sgt. Messick. "Those guys have a thing about inmates who kill mothers and pregnant women. " As he settles in to Death Row, Scott will be allowed a TV set and a radio. He must get it from a vendor who manufactures the items with clear plastic casings so guards can see if inmates are hiding weapons or contraband. The handsome inmate has proven to be a lady slayer in more ways than one. Before being transferred to San Quentin from the jail in San Mateo County, Scott had to destroy hundreds of letters from women -- many of them containing photos of the love-struck loonies, according to a law enforcement source. "The shredded letters filled three garbage bags." -- DON GENTILE
