GUILTY BY BY GOOGLE
William McGuire thought his wife Melanie was an angel - a nurse with a caring nature and a wonderful mom to their two small kids.
But behind the kind smile, Melanie was carefully plotting his murder so she could move in with her boss and secret lover - a rich doctor. She thought she'd come up with the perfect plan, but she left a trail of evidence on her computer - and was found "guilty by Google."
She used the internet search engine to research ways to get rid of her husband - and her computer ended up being the star "witness" against her.
Melanie bought a gun in another state and shot her unsuspecting husband as he slept after giving him a powerful sedative.
Then the cold-hearted killer chopped up his body and dumped it in Chesapeake Bay in three suitcases. To help cover up her crime, she went to court for a restraining order in an effort to convince police that her husband had beaten her and run away.
Melanie thought she'd gotten away with it - until a week later when the suitcases bobbed to the surface.
And police computer experts came up with a virtual smoking gun. They traced her Google searches and developed a damning dossier of evidence of her coldly calculated plot.
Her Internet searches included: "how to commit murder," "undetectable poisons" and "how to purchase guns illegally."
