Charlie Sheen formally charged with felony menacing and 2nd degree assault chatges stemming from his alleged holiday attack on wife Brooke Mueller.

During the assault, Mueller alleged that Sheen threatened to kille her and held a knife to her throat as their argument escalated.

It was revealed in court today that Mueller had attended Response, a battered women's shelter in Aspen, Colorado.

Lawyers for the couple requested that Judge James Boyd relax the protective order that prohibits any contact between them, which was granted with the provision that Sheen stay away from owning or handling any firearms and does not consume alcohol.

The ENQUIRER previously reported both Sheens had a boozy Christmas eve coupled with cocaine use.

Sheen's next appearance is March 15th before the judge.

Before parting, the Sheens hugged one another before exiting separately.
