CHANDRA LEVY FAMILY TORMENT

description

Nine years after the disappearance of Washington DC intern CHANDRA LEVY the trial of her suspected killer begins and the Levy family is still crushed by unbearable grief and torment.

In 2001,  Chandra Levy, than 24, had flown across country to intern in the nation’s capitol.  She works hard and also has an affair with her married hometown congressman,  She had just finished her internship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and returning to California for graduation when she mysteriously vanished without  a trace,

As new of her affair with then-Congressman Gary Condit incited worldwide media speculation, Levy’s pictures and story appeared across the globe.

After Condit was questions by authorities, the case grew even hotter but the whereabouts of the pretty brunette were still unknown.

In May 2002, nearly a year later, here skeletal remains were discovered in Rock Creek Park.

Authorities are convinced that an El Salvaador emigrant and gang member Ingmar Guandique, 29, is responsible.

Guandique is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault in Levy’s death but there is no DNA evidence and no corroborating witnesses to confirm the police theory that Guandique attacked, raped and killed Levy in a secluded area of Rock Creek Park about May 1, 2001.

Prosecutors are pinning their case on statements that Guandique made to other prisoners and in letters he wrote, confessing to assaulting two female joggers in the same time frame Levy was killed

Whether prosecutors get a conviction or not, one thing is certain – both Robert and Susan Levy, Chadra’s parents, must relive the trauma AGAIN in the daily media.

Yet Robert, 64, is convinced the police have their daughter’s killer in custody.

“I would prefer someone take care of him in prison,” Levy told The Washington Post. “He shouldn’t die right away. That would be too easy.”

Susan Levy plays “what if” scenarios over and over again, with scant relief.

“Was she in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or it could have been because of who she knew? I don’t know.”

Jury selection in the sensational murder trial begins today.
