With ZOOEY DESCHANEL’s new hit comedy “the New Girl” clobbering competition in its debut,  The ENQUIRER gets deets on the adorable beauty.

Zooey Deschanel was born in Los Angeles, January, 17, 1980.

She’s the daughter of famed Hollywood cinematographer/director Caleb Deschanel and his wife actress Mary Jo Deschanel.  Caleb shot classic film “The Right Stuff” and her mom played astronaut John Glenn’s wife Annie in the film.

Naturally, she was named for the title character in literary titan J.D. Salinger’s 1961 novella “Franny and Zooey”.

Her older sister, Emily Deschanel, is best known for starring on TV’s "Bones".

Emily went to a private prep school in Santa Monica with pals and future stars Kate Hudson and Jake Gyllenhall.

Singing since she was young, Emily attended Northwestern University but dropped out to concentrate on acting.

After making her screen debut in “Mumford” (1999), she garnered critical notices in her breakout role in “Almost Famous” (2000).

In the comedy “Elf” with Will Ferrell she not only sang in the shower but on the closing credits “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (with Leon Redbone).

Emily suffers from ADD, she admitted in an interview.

She’s also allergic to eggs, dairy, and wheat gluten and was a hard core vegan before realizing her food allergies made it impossible to stick to the rigid diet.

In September 2009, Emily married musician Ben Gibbard, lead vocalist for Death Cab for Cutie.

The Hollywood Reporter said co-producer and star Emily’s “The New Girl” debut was the highest-rated show on primetime TV.

No doubt, we’ll be hearing more from new IT girl Zooey.
