“High School Musical Star” Zac Efron was saved by the LAPD when they intervened in a violent brawl between Zac, his bodyguard and at least three homeless assailants – one of whom managed to sock Zac right in the mouth before the fight was broken up, sources say.
According to sources, the police were on patrol under L.A.’s Harbor Freeway shortly after midnight on Sunday when they saw Zac and a man he identified as his bodyguard in a “full-blown melee” with at least three transients.
The cops managed to break up the fight, and questioned Zac afterward. Zac explained that he had run out of gas, and that he and his bodyguard were sitting in the car, waiting for a tow truck.
While waiting, Zac claimed that they threw a bottle from the window, and it smashed on the pavement near a group of transients. Zac said the transients then confronted them, believing that the bottle had been thrown intentionally.
The confrontation escalated, and Zac suffered a painful punch to the jaw. “It was the hardest I’ve ever been hit in my life,” Zac said.
Meanwhile, questions remain as to what was actually in that bottle and why Efron was in that sketchy neighborhood in the first place.
But one source noted that Efron was "obviously intoxicated."
