Bat Bale‘s stunning admission – instead of studying serial killers for American Psycho he studied Tom Cruise!
According to the ground breaking film’s director Mary Harron, she and Bale were discussing how to craft preppie killer Patrick Bateman, the delusional yuppie protagonist of the Bret Easton Ellis novel.
"We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave," Harron divulged.
And instead of studying notorious serials John Wayne Gacy or Jeffrery Dahmer, Bale found his ideal role model quite by accident.
"And then one day Bale called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with NOTHING behind the eyes," Harron revealed.
