Dallas nightclub owner JACK RUBY shot JFK’s reputed killer LEE HARVEY OSWALD in full view of millions watching live on TV. WHAT happened to the infamous gun?

It was auctioned off, natch.

AP reported the gun Jack Ruby used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald was auctioned off in 1991 for a mere $220,000.

Ruby had bought his gun for $62.50 at a Dallas gun shop.

Bidding for the .38 caliber Colt Cobra revolver, with the police evidence tag still attached, started at $100,000 and quickly escalated.

The buyer was a New Jersey “gun collector” who has remained anonymous.

The buyer didn't attend actually attend the auction, sending a proxy, Frank Roman, to place the bids. ''I'm purchasing it for a gun collector,'' Roman told AP.

When asked what the collector would do with the gun, Roman said ''I guess he's going to put it away.''

Jack Ruby's brother Earl, a Detroit businessman, who put the gun up for auction after a protracted legal battle, intended using $80,000 of the proceeds to pay his income tax bill.

''I feel great,'' Earl Ruby said. ''I don't feel too good about having to get rid of the gun but I'm glad the bills will be paid.''

Jack Ruby shot accused Kennedy assassin Oswald to death with the .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver in the basement of Dallas City Jail on Nov. 24, 1963, two days after President Kennedy was assassinated.  The incident was seen on live TV by millions of viewers.

Ruby was easily convicted of murdering Oswald, but the conviction was overturned and he died in jail from cancer in 1967 while awaiting a second trial.

It is unclear what dollar amount the gun would generate today’s on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination.
