TOM CRUISE not content to command “Mission Impossible” has eyes set on “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” feature.

The Hollywood Reporter says Tom is in early talks to take the role made famous by Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as Russian agent Ilya Kuryakin in the 1960s classic TV series.

The new film is to be directed by Guy Ritchie who rebooted Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr.

But will the cold-war spy skein take flight as a modern-day reboot ala Bourne Supremacy or retro-rooted in the swingin’ Sixties.

As The ENQUIRER previously reported “The Man From U.N.C.L.E” flick has been in development hell for years and it’s big BIG problem is casting.

Steven Soderbergh was hoping to do to the UNCLE re-boot with George Clooney two years ago, but when Clooney said “No thanks” producers considered hunky thesps Channing TatumBradley CooperRyan Gosling and Michael Fassbender.

Guy Ritchie came on board after Soderbergh ankled the project but both Ben Affleck  and Matt Damon passed.

Both David McCallum and Robert Vaughn are still working so maybe it’s time for The Man from GREAT-U.N.C.L.E.?
