A man slashed his wrists in a grim suicide bid within the crowd gathered outside to watch The TODAY SHOW broadcast. SEE VIDEO
New York police said that at approximatelyt 7:50 a.m. the man, believed to be in his 50s, started cutting his wrists and reportedly his forearms.
Civilian video shot by bystander, SirAnduck at Moby Video, showed the man in a white hat staggering wildly behind police barricades before being tackled by a Rockefeller Center security guard before he could harm himself further.
On the morning show’s Twitter feed confirmed that the show’s staff was aware of the incident as “@MLauer just reported that a man on the plaza tried to harm himself with a knife. No one else was injured. Police are handling.”
The man was quickly rushed to St. Luke's Hospital and police sources say he is expected to survive.
