TEDDY SURGERY SUCCESSFUL

Senator Edward M. Kennedy underwent surgery at Duke University Medical Center for his cancerous brain tumor.

His doctors say it was successful and Teddy told wife Vicki he "felt like a million bucks," a family spokesman said.

Teddy will then be treated with  chemotherapy and radiation treatments, his office revealed.

Despite being diagnosed with a malignant glioma tumor after suffering a seizure at his Cape Cod home, the 76-year-old Kennedy went sailing over the Memorial Day weekend.

Kennedy was being operated on at the Durham, North Carolina hospital by neurosurgeon Dr. Allan Friedman.

“I am pleased to report that Senator Kennedy’s surgery was successful and accomplished our goals,” Dr. Friedman stated.

A Kennedy spokesperson said the surgery began at 9 A.M. and last ed 3 1/2 hours. 

He is expected to recuperate at the facility for week before undergoing chemo at Massachusetts General Hospital.

"I am humbled by the outpouring and am strengthened by your prayers and kindness," Senator Kennedy said in a statement.
