Even as her life slipped away, cancer-stricken Dana Reeve‘s thoughts were of her son and how best to protect him from the latest tragedy to rock his young life.
In a heartbreaking decision that no mother would wish to make, she ruled that 13-year-old Will would be better off brought up in familiar surroundings rather than moved to live with his surviving relatives.
It was courageous Dana’s final act of love towards her late husband, Superman actor Christopher Reeve, with whom she had made a pact about their only son’s future as he himself lay close to death.
And the selfless move means that Will shall be raised by neighbors Robert and Nancy Fraiman — close friends of Christopher and Dana — in the community where he is already a favorite son.
