AGATHE VON TRAPP whose real life family was the basis of the film The Sound of Music, is dead at 97.
Long time family friend Mary Louise Kane said that von Trapp died at a Baltimore hospice at suffering congestive heart failure at the end of November.
Von Trapp was the eldest daughter of Austrian Captain George Ritter von Trapp who was played in the Robert Wise film by Christopher Plummer.
The seven children by von Trapp’s first wife were the singing family depicted in the Julie Andrews 1965 standard.
Agathe von Trapp ran a kindergarten at the Catholic Sacred Heart parish in nearby Glyndon, Maryland.
Agathe lived with longtime companion Mary Louise Kane for five decades.
Agathe’s death leaves four surviving members of the Trapp Family Singers: Maria von Trapp, 96; Rosmarie von Trapp, 81; Elenore “Lorli” von Trapp Campbell, 79; and Johannes, 71. Auf Wiedersehen, fraulein.
