SMOKING hot “Modern Family” beauty Sofia Vergara has told co-star Ty Burrell to quit making an ash of himself.
The Colombian bombshell – who frequently plays mother hen to cast members – sprang into action after the Sept. 22 Emmy Awards and pleaded with Ty to snuff his cigarette habit.
In the past, Sofia had restrained from lecturing Ty because he’s said to be sensitive about the topic of smoking.
“But seeing him run out of the Emmy parties for cigarette breaks finally got to her,” said an insider.
“Sofia ran after him and told him an incredibly sad story about one of her uncles back in Colombia who was a heavy smoker and died of lung cancer, leaving his wife a widow and his children fatherless.
“She told Ty he had to quit for the sake of his own wife and family. Sofia thought scaring Ty might knock some sense into him.”
The 41-year-old actress, who plays outspoken Gloria on the Emmy-winning ABC sitcom, was particularly concerned because Ty and his wife Holly adopted a daughter in 2010 and another baby girl just last year.
The amiable 46-year-old actor, who portrays real estate agent Phil Dunphy, has been talking about kicking the habit for years, said the insider, “but something about Sofia’s personal family story and her heartfelt concern finally got to him.”
“Ty didn’t make any promises, but he did thank Sofia for opening his eyes again about the dangers of smoking – even if he doesn’t completely believe the uncle tale.”
