Slash The Cost Of Your Next Vacation

You can hit the highway and enjoy a terrific vacation – without breaking the bank this summer!

During summer vacation season the prices on attractions and accommodations often skyrocket.

But you can get a bigger bang for your buck with these tips from The National ENQUIRER!

Make sure you do your homework: Surf the web before leaving home. Check out discount travel sites like Orbitz and Travelocity for the best airfares and hotel rates. But check with your hotel to see if it’s offering any special rates – which may be even better!

Stick to a budget: Know what you can afford to spend on souvenirs and other nonessential buys before you go – and don’t exceed that amount. If you do shop, avoid souvenir traps with marked-up price tags for gullible tourists.

Don’t rent where you fly: You can get a better rate at rent-a-car locations just a few miles away from the airport. Also, if your employer has a corporate account with a specific agency, it often honors discounts when you travel for leisure. And don’t forget about AAA and AARP discounts!

Try alternative accommodations: Hotel costs add up! The average daily cost of a hotel room is about $115. If you can’t stay with friends or family at your destination, consider a short-term rental. It will significantly slash lodging costs, but you’ll save even more money by cooking at the rental!

Buy the book!: Pick up “Entertainment Books” for the city you’re visiting. They feature major savings on meals, attractions, car rentals and even accommodations. They’re available online, at car rental agencies and in drugstores. Some destinations also offer separate discount card programs for local businesses.

Eat smart: Dining out at every meal will undoubtedly put a big dent in your daily budget. Make sure to pack lunches and take advantage of the continental breakfasts in most hotels at vacation destinations. Bring your own food to theme parks, ballgames, carnivals and other attractions, and you’ll skip huge concession fees. You’ll also probably be eating a whole lot better!
