Star Trek beauty Zoe Saldana secret shame.
The 30 year old beauty who plays iconic Uhura made famous by Nichelle Nichols in reboot of the Star Trek franchise was scared of playing such a geek-centric character and nearly passed on the summer blockbuster.
"My mum was absolutely ecstatic when I got the role," Zoe confessed. "But when director JJ Abrams offered it I was sort of afraid of saying yes. My mother was like, ‘Zoe, are you crazy? It’s Uhura!’ She was like, ‘Oh my God – you have to do it!’"
Saldana sheepishly admitted her stage-mother was filled with Trekkian frenzy when Zoe landed the part, going so far as to direct her daughter – off camera.
"She read the script and she’d call and leave these funny voicemails.
"She’d say, ‘Zoe, it’s Mommy. For this scene, Uhura is concerned. Please play her hard!’" Zoe divulged.
No doubt Mum was coaching clueless Zoe on her sex scene with a certain unnamed crew member with green blood. Most illogical.
