“Hurt Locker” Oscar winner KATHRYN BIGELOW’s fights back at claims release of her Seal Team Six/Dead Bin Laden movie is timed to coincide with Presidential election.
Previously, Republican Rep. King accused Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal had unprecedented access to top secret files, intelligence officers and Sea Team Six in crafting their film about the hunt Bin Laden.
But CIA spokesman, Preston Goldson said such close collaboration with filmmakers has been done before.
“As part of our public outreach, this agency – like others in our government – has over the years engaged with writers, documentary filmmakers, movie and TV producers, and others in the entertainment industry.
“Our goal is an accurate portrayal of the men and women of the CIA, their vital mission and the commitment to public service that defines them," Golson said.
The Bin Laden film is scheduled for release Oct. 12, 2012, mere weeks before the election.
The filmmakers also took umbrage the film is slanted Pro-Obama in its storytelling. Issuing a statement, the filmmakers said the film covers the pursuit of Bin Laden during both Republican and Democratic administrations
The May 1, raid "was an American triumph, both heroic and nonpartisan, and there is no basis to suggest that our film will represent this enormous victory otherwise," the filmmakers said.
Meanwhile, uber-conservative mag, The Weekly Standard made note that the Bin Laden flick’s distributor, Sony Pictures, held a major fundraiser for Obama’s reelection last April – the only major Hollywood studio to do so this early in the election cycle.
But Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee kept his attack going that the filmmakers broached sensitive materials or obtained access to top secret personnel working undercover.
White House press secretary Jay Carney called King’s innuendo "ridiculous."
