Actor RUSSELL CROWE is pigging out in despair over a career and love life caught in a downward spiral – as seen in shocking exclusive photos obtained by The National ENQUIRER!
The 51-year-old star is far from his trim “Gladiator” days, and friends worry the situation is getting worse!
“Russell is not in a good place,” a close pal told The ENQUIRER. “He’s depressed, lonely, and eating and smoking too much!”
Our insider said Russell has been on shaky ground since splitting from his wife, Danielle Spencer, in 2012.
Since then, the pudgy former A-lister has struck out with old flame Meg Ryan and his “L.A. Confidential” co-star Kim Basinger.
Russell also can’t get over how Nicole Kidman – with whom he had a rumored romance – has settled into a happy marriage with Keith Urban, sources previously told The ENQUIRER.
Then came the disaster of “The Water Diviner,” Russell’s directorial debut, which flopped virtually everywhere outside his native Australia. The movie cost $22.5 million, but was trashed by the critics and grossed a paltry $19.1 million at the box office!
“He had such hopes for this film. It was his first shot behind the camera, and the thing just tanked,” said our source. As a desperate Russell told an interviewer in April, when the movie was released in the U.S.: “It’s three years of my life, and that’s what’s on the line.”
Now all those failures are crashing down on Russell, and piling up around his waistline!
His pal said: “He’s just got to rediscover that spark!”
