Jessica Simpson’s heart broke all over again when word spread that her ex-boyfriend Tony Romo had gotten engaged to his new girlfriend, sources say.
The unlucky-in-love star was crushed at reports that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s squeeze Candice Crawford was flashing diamonds on her ring finger, according to pals.
“Jess was torn up about it,” said a source close to the pop princess. “She obsesses over Tony’s every move with Candice, and she’s always held out hope that she could win him back.
“When word got back to her that he’d bought Candice a ring, it was like Jessica had to accept it was really over with Tony.”
Jessica has been dating Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan, but insiders say she hasn’t recovered since Romo dumped her on the eve of her 29th birthday in July after a two-year romance.
The football player, 29, began dating Candice, 23-year-old former Miss Missouri USA and sister of “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford, in September.
“But just the thought that Candice was getting Tony to the altar was enough to send Jess into a deep funk,” said the source. “Jess always dreamed that she’d be the one to marry Tony. She had their wedding all planned in her head.
“If Tony is really engaged, it might finally help Jessica move on with her life. Whether or not he’s getting married, Tony certainly isn’t looking back.”
